Hi! Meet Teri & Sarah
We are the inspiration behind The Sober Edge Book Club. Both of us have been in many book clubs over the years, and many of those turned out to be something other than book clubs (Teri likes to call them 'whine & wine clubs'!). During our sober journey, we each found so many books to be inspiring and instrumental in our transformation, but we missed the opportunity to share them with others. Now, we have the perfect option! Each month will feature a book to help you on this beautiful 'after alcohol' journey; genres include quit lit, personal development and memoirs. Both Teri & Sarah are podcast creators and we look forward to bringing you lively conversations highlighting each author!
Teri Patterson
Teri is a This Naked Mind Sober Life Coach and Functional Nutritionist. She is the owner of The Sober Nutritionist and the creator of The Self Experience and The Sober Edge Podcast. She lives in Northern California with her husband and new puppy, Nola. Teri loves all types of books, including fiction, biographies and personal development books. The book Teri tries to re-read every year is Watership Down, by Richard Adams
Sarah Showard
Sarah is the owner of Showard Law, a practice devoted to representing victims of Big Pharma in drug and medical device lawsuits. Sarah has loved reading since she was a child. Her favorite Christmas presents were always books! According to her husband, she is a ferocious (voracious) reader. Sarah's love of animals means you will often find her at her ranch in Sonoita, AZ, where she spends time with her horses, goats, dogs and her husband, Peter. Sarah recently started a podcast called Prioritizing Profits: dangerous drug and product cases. Her favorite book of all time is Germinal by Emile Zola.
Here's What We're Reading!
June Selection
A groundbreaking exploration of the ancient rules women unwittingly follow in order to be considered “good,” revealing how the Seven Deadly Sins still control and distort our lives and illuminating a path toward a more balanced, spiritually complete way to live.
In On Our Best Behavior, Loehnen reveals how we’ve been programmed to obey the rules represented by these sins and how doing so qualifies us as “good.” This probing analysis of contemporary culture and thoroughly researched history explains how women have internalized the patriarchy, and how they unwittingly reinforce it. By sharing her own story and the spiritual wisdom of other traditions, Loehnen shows how we can break free and discover the integrity and wholeness we seek.
July Selection
Soulful and uproarious, forceful and tender, Untamed is both an intimate memoir and a galvanizing wake-up call. It is the story of how one woman learned that a responsible mother is not one who slowly dies for her children, but one who shows them how to fully live. It is the story of navigating divorce, forming a new blended family, and discovering that the brokenness or wholeness of a family depends not on its structure but on each member’s ability to bring her full self to the table. And it is the story of how each of us can begin to trust ourselves enough to set boundaries, make peace with our bodies, honor our anger and heartbreak, and unleash our truest, wildest instincts so that we become women who can finally look at ourselves and say: There She Is.
August Selection
"From the award-winning author of The One-in-a-Million Boy comes a heartfelt, uplifting novel about a chance encounter at a bookstore, exploring redemption, unlikely friendships, and the life-changing power of sharing stories.
How to Read a Book is an unsparingly honest and profoundly hopeful story about letting go of guilt, seizing second chances, and the power of books to change our lives. With the heart, wit, grace, and depth of understanding that has characterized her work, Monica Wood illuminates the decisions that define a life and the kindnesses that make life worth living.
